E-waste Collection Competition launched in Dubai schools

The Municipality of Dubai has announced the E-waste Collection Competition, which aims to raise awareness and sustainable environmental behavior among students, teaching staff and parents.

The move is part of the municipality’s ongoing commitment to foster a culture of environmental sustainability through initiatives and campaigns, programs and competitions aimed at educating all sectors of society in the emirate.

The e-waste collection competition is an informative workshop designed to motivate and encourage students to collect and sort waste from the source and make the most of it. The initiative is part of many public awareness programs as part of an annual plan to raise awareness in all areas of sustainable waste management, aimed at raising the awareness of various groups in society about the importance of conserving natural resources and encouraging them to avoid practices that are harmful to the environment.

The contest, held in collaboration with the Emirates School Education Foundation, sponsor yesforcircle and teachers, last month managed to collect more than 4,600 kilograms of e-waste, with more than 20,000 students from 45 public schools participating. They were recycled in collaboration with the private sector. Participating schools received a special container to collect e-waste, which will be emptied as it fills in cooperation with faculty coordinators. The competition will continue through the end of the current semester.

A number of informational visits to schools have been arranged in coordination with strategic partners. E-waste information projects will also be prepared and distributed to all schools to ensure that the information messages reach the greatest number of beneficiaries and contribute to the goals of the competition.

The municipality believes in the importance of focusing on sustainable development and consolidating the values of environmental sustainability, and contributes to support the Sustainable Development Goals and increase social responsibility indicators among students in the emirate.
