Dubai Women’s Run comes back for its 9th edition

Dubai Women’s Run, the largest sporting event for women in the Arab world, returns for the 9th time on 06 November 2022 on Bluewaters Island in Dubai.

Organiser Plan b Group in partnership with the UAE Athletics Federation and Dubai Sports Council is hosting the Dubai Women’s Run.

More than 6,000 runners will take part in this year’s event, who are expected to register for the 10km and 5km races, as well as a 3km fun run/walk, which is open to women and girls aged 14 and above.

This year’s route will take place around Bluewaters, which is a bustling island destination and home to some of the city’s most original shopping concepts and attractions. Participants will be able to take in views of Dubai’s iconic skyline and the Persian Gulf as they wind their way through the stylish area and traverse the quintessential experience. There will be entertainment for the whole family during the event: cultural performances, children’s activities, food and beverage stalls, and a DJ who will liven up the atmosphere throughout the event.

The Dubai Women’s Run, which has been a regular feature on the UAE sports calendar since 2010, returns for the first time since the Covid pandemic. It aims to encourage women of all ages and from all walks of life to adopt a healthy lifestyle.

His Excellency Nasser Aman Al Rahma, Assistant Secretary General of the Dubai Sports Council, welcomed the gathering and said: “Today we are announcing the organisation of the ninth edition of the Dubai Women’s Run next November, which is the most important event in the world of women’s running, bringing together amateurs and professionals in different categories, to be held this year in a unique tourist area that shines in Dubai and attracts worldwide attention, namely Blue Waters Island, where competitions will be held on various streets of the island and the start and finish will be near the Ain Dubai, the largest of its kind in the world. The event is now in its ninth edition after achieving great success in eight editions. In the past, the eighth edition saw the number of participants reach almost 5,000 and the ninth edition is expected to reach over 6,000 participants in various categories.

He added: “We are delighted that women of different nationalities, including amateurs and professionals, will take part in the race and that the participants include runners from our national team in the 10km category, where they will compete against international runners and have the opportunity to develop the level and continue to participate in various competitive races.”

Since Plan b Group took charge of the race in 2017, it has become the largest women’s race in the Arab world and has reached such a level that it has ranked among the most popular running events on the international sports scene.

Dr Harmeek Singh, chairman and founder of Plan b Group, said: “Participating in the ninth edition is an achievement for Plan b and speaks volumes about Dubai being at the forefront of the fight for equality and clearly the Dubai Women’s Run is a resilient message not only regionally but also globally. I support the vision that our able leaders have laid in all of us, and in my personal capacity, supported by a passionate team, we are here to revive the Dubai Women’s Run initiative on a bigger and better platform. This platform will help build a strong social fabric with values associated with Dubai and the UAE as a whole.”
