Sheikh Zayed Mosque and Dubai Fountain named the most beautiful in the world

Abu Dhabi’s Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque and Dubai Fountain have been named among the 20 most beautiful sights in the world by Kuoni, a travel company that analysed thousands of reviews on online portal TripAdvisor.

The famous mosque was ranked eighth and the light and music fountain at the foot of the Burj Khalifa was ranked 11th. Travelers were most enchanted by New York’s Central Park, which was the most frequently voted “beautiful” by users.

Also in the top 5 were landmarks in Italy, Spain and France, such as the Trevi Fountain, the Basilica of the Holy Family and Notre Dame de Paris.

The Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque is one of the largest mosques in the world and a masterpiece of architecture. It is an astonishing building with the capacity of 41 thousand worshipers.

The mosque is decorated with 82 domes, one thousand columns, chandeliers gilded with leaf-gold and the biggest hand-woven carpet in the world. The main prayer hall is lit up by one of the biggest chandeliers in the world (10 m in diameter, 15 m high, weight 12 tons).

Sheikh Zayed, the first President of the UAE, is buried on the grounds of the mosque. His burial was the first religious service to be held in this mosque. The sparkling pools surrounding the mosque further enhance its beauty.

During the day the building glitters white and gold in the sun and at night it is illuminated by artificial light, with a unique lighting system that changes the characteristics of the light according to the phases of the moon.

The Dubai Fountain is famous for its light and music performances and is the tallest functioning fountain in the world. Its jets soar above the 120 thousand square meters of the Burj Lake, covering an area the size of two football fields.

The Dubai Fountain shoots over 830 thousand litres of water into the 140-metre high lake every second. It is the most popular show in Dubai: the water jets illuminated with different colours, alternately soar high in time with the music. The fountain is notable for its rich and varied choreographic forms.

Sound effects include popular compositions such as Thriller by Michael Jackson, Time to Say Goodbye by Andrea Bocelli and Sarah Brightman, the new hit Power by the Korean band EXO and others. This fountain is shaped like five ellipses, and its dancing can be seen from over 30 kilometres away.
