WGES: 8th World Green Economy Summit to take place on 28 & 29 September

The Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) and the World Green Economy Organisation (WGEO) will organise the 8th World Green Economy Summit (WGES) on 28 and 29 September 2022 at the Dubai World Trade Centre. WGES will be held in conjunction with the 24th Water, Energy, Technology and Environment Exhibition (WETEX) and the Dubai Solar Expo (DSS) organised by DEWA from 27 to 29 September 2022.

WGES attracts several local and international VIPs each year, including heads of state and heads of government, as well as a large number of international speakers, officials, government agencies, media representatives, experts and scientists.

H.E. Syed Mohammed Al Tayer, Deputy Chairman of Dubai Supreme Energy Council, Director General of DEWA and Chairman of the World Green Economy Summit, said that WGES represents the efforts of the UAE and Dubai to strengthen regional and international cooperation, achieve climate neutrality and accelerate the transition to a green economy. This aims to ensure economic growth and sustainability of natural and environmental resources.

“WGES is a global platform that aims to foster partnerships, share experiences among decision makers and support collaboration between regional and international organisations from the public and private sectors. It provides a platform for experts and scientists to discuss the latest plans and policies, sheds light on the progress made by climate neutral initiatives, facilitates dialogue on implementing national contributions to climate change action, and strengthens collaboration between government and private sector organisations to achieve key KPIs. WGES is one of the most important initiatives of the UAE in general and Dubai in particular to support the international community’s efforts towards sustainable green growth that meets current and future needs,” Al Tayer added.

The 7th session of WGES was held as part of Expo 2020 Dubai under the theme “Energising Action for Sustainable Recovery”. The WGES featured high-level panel sessions and workshops on developing innovative sustainable solutions and promoting innovation to support sustainable development. This takes place in four main areas: Youth; Innovation and Smart Technology; Green Economy Policy; and Green Finance. The Dubai Declaration 2021 stresses that the climate crisis is an urgent global threat, with implications that transcend the environmental agenda and include economic, social and environmental concerns.
