Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), represented by Enterprise Command and Control Centre (EC3), has won the Best Business Award for its innovative use of technology. The award is one of the most prestigious in the UK for recognising excellence in a variety of areas.
The Best Business Awards are recognised as one of the UK’s most prestigious business awards, attracting wide participation from businesses and organisations, including multinationals and SMEs, characterised by innovation and leadership. The awards are managed by Awards Intelligence, a renowned business awards expert.
This new achievement is a credit to the RTA for introducing its Enterprise Command and Control Centre (EC3). “EC3 is recognised as one of the largest and most sophisticated control centres in the world in terms of the technology used and its ability to integrate and control all means of mass transport such as metro, trams, public buses, taxis and marine modes of transport. It also connects and monitors traffic management systems and provides seamless transport planning to address the various transport challenges in the emirate.
The Enterprise Command and Control Centre (EC3) has been designed using flexible procedures to manage a road network of some 5,000 kilometres, 1,700 city buses, over 10,000 taxis, 129 metro trains comprising 645 coaches, and 54 metro stations, including seven stations on the 2020 route, as well as 11 trams and 11 tram stops. It also manages the main control room, equipped with a 53 square metre giant screen and linked to 34 technical devices to ensure full and instantaneous integration of all systems.
The EC3 is also capable of receiving and processing data from more than 10,000 surveillance cameras. It can use artificial intelligence to manage accidents and crises, and mobile phone data to plan and manage mobility and congestion by identifying crowded areas and directing vehicles to serve them. The centre can simulate the reality at the heart of the event with a 3D visual display and control mobility using drones. It also has other technical capabilities, making it one of the largest and most outstanding control centres worldwide.
