Profession of a DJ in Dubai: Interview with DJ Alena Fresco

No event can be imagined without a trendy and professional DJ. We talked and interviewed the bright and creative representative of this profession Alena Zlotskaya – DJ Alena Fresco. Alena gladly shared her story and experience with us, gave advice what events and places to visit, spoke about the most popular musical styles and about the people who inspire her.

How long have you been DJing? How did you come to becoming DJ Alena Fresco?

I’ve been DJing since 2012-2013, when people still played from CDs. There was little faith in Dj girls, so I worked as an MC and Dj. It was also important to officially study at the DJ school and get a certificate. Going to DJ school was very expensive, so I stopped doing it. But after a while I realized that this was my way and decided to study at the DJ school in Belarus. Of course, at school it is impossible to learn all the nuances of the work of a DJ, everything comes with experience and thanks to the help of other experienced DJs. For the last 6 years in Dubai I have been working as a DJ, enjoying my job, learning and also teaching new DJs.

Is DJ profession popular in Dubai?

Sure! There are more and more clubs and restaurants in Dubai every month, and each of them needs a DJ, so there is a lot of competition, but there is always a place for a cool DJ.

What big and memorable events have you taken part in?

All events are big for me: I play absolutely the same for 10 people at VIP events, as well as for a large audience, with felling and for everyone to dance.

Unfortunately big events in Thailand, Greece and other places were canceled due to the pandemic, but everything returns to normal. In two months there will be a large-scale Festival for 15,000 people, but I’ll be happy to tell you about this a little later, for now it’s a secret.

I work at fashion shows, Yacht Vip events, pool parties, Arab weddings, events, Privat events for bloggers.

I was a resident DJ of many hotels in Dubai, such as Address JBR, Burj Al Arab, Habtour Group and many others.

At the moment I am a resident DJ Alena Fresco in 4 establishments: Luna Sky Lounge DIFC Four Season Hotel, Level 43 Sky Lounge SZR Four Points by Sheraton, Laguna Beach Lounge by Sofitel Dubai The Palm, Pool Party JBR Double Tree by Hilton Dubai Jumeirah Beach.

Tell us about the nightlife in Dubai: clubs, restaurants, locations.

I consider I work in the best places. There are also many nightclubs and restaurants in Dubai, there are just hundreds of them, and new ones are constantly opening, But my personal recommendation, the place I like is Bla Bla Jbr, there are many restaurants and there is a club.

What are the coolest events held in Dubai? What events would you recommend visiting?

There are a lot of different events in Dubai, so I can’t single out any specific ones: well-known artists constantly arrive, there are a lot of new pop stars. I advise you to keep your finger on the pulse and follow the announcements. The next event I’m going to is the Dj ALAN WALKER & KSHMR concert, which will take place on August 26 at the Coca-Cola Arena.

What is the most popular music in Dubai?

Dubai is multinational, so this is a matter of taste for everyone. After 8 years of living in Dubai, I think that is still House Music (progressive, melodic, organic, Tehno, Teck) in places EDM, hip hop, rnb, Afro.

Who are your favorite DJs? Who inspires Alena Fresco?

I like Black Coffee, Tiesto, ALAN WALKER. I am inspired and really like the way they write music, the way they present it. These are legends. In general, I like to listen to different DJs, as each has its own style.
