DMCC invites 15 impact-oriented companies to Dubai

DMCC, the world’s leading free zone and the Dubai government’s body for trade in goods and enterprise, has announced that 15 companies have been selected to participate in the DMCC Impact Scale-Up Programme – Powered by C3 (Companies Creating Change). The programme is the first of its kind in the UAE to support the growth of impact-oriented businesses that align with the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

The programme was launched at a virtual launch ceremony in partnership with C3, a social enterprise in the UAE that helps entrepreneurs in the region unlock their growth potential and maximise their positive impact on society.

The programme is an integral part of DMCC’s wider social responsibility strategy, representing the focus of DMCC’s commitment to dedicate 0.5% of its net profits to social impact. Along with several other initiatives to improve environmental sustainability in its community, DMCC is now offering up to a 30% discount on licenses to any company that becomes a member of the UN Global Compact to fight climate change.

In her opening remarks, Feryal Ahmadi, Chief Operating Officer of DMCC, said: “As one of the world’s leading business districts with over 21,000 member companies, DMCC is uniquely positioned to promote environmental, social and governance programmes in the region. We have a significant opportunity to create positive environmental and social change by activating and mobilising our community.”

15 impact-oriented companies have joined DMCC’s growing community of over 21,000 businesses and have enjoyed significant savings on business start-up costs through a special 70% discount on licence fees and flexible workspace for two years, as well as additional discounts on licence renewals from the third to fifth year.

Successful companies from countries such as Colombia, UK, South Africa, India, Pakistan and Egypt operate in a variety of sectors such as healthcare, agriculture and food technology, educational technology and employment and work readiness.

Founders will begin their training at C3 in September, where they will receive expert support in a variety of areas, including impact, scaling strategy, business, management, talent and doing business in the UAE. The selected companies will be prepared to meet investors and potential partners from C3’s network of 4,000 leading experts, blue chip clients and over 150 investment companies.

The programme will support these companies contributing to the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by enabling them to establish a presence in the UAE and use the local ecosystem as a launch pad for successful expansion in the MEA region. A comprehensive training and networking programme will provide a proven plan for successful entry into the UAE market, as well as links to local and regional investors and blue-chip companies.
