Dubai Diamond Exchange unveils world’s largest flawless pink diamond

DMCC has unveiled one of the world’s largest internally flawless fancy bright pink diamonds, the ‘Williamson Pink Star’ at the Dubai Diamond Exchange (DDE) this September.

The flawless 11.15-carat pink diamond began its roadshow in Dubai, one of the world’s leading diamond trading hubs, and will travel to Singapore and Taipei before going up for auction at Sotheby’s Hong Kong in October. The Williamson Pink Star diamond is expected to be worth more than $21 million and could set a new record price per carat thanks to its incredible clarity.

Ahmed Bin Sulayem, executive chairman and chief executive of DMCC, said: “From declaring the United Arab Emirates the world’s largest rough diamond trading hub to posting record diamond trading figures in the first half of the year, 2022 was a monumental year for Dubai’s diamond history. Sotheby’s hosting of the first presentation of such an exceptional pink diamond on the Dubai Diamond Exchange is further confirmation of Dubai’s significant role in the global diamond industry.”

In line with its mandate to attract, facilitate and stimulate new trade flows through Dubai, DMCC is a driving force in establishing the emirate as a leading global diamond trading hub. The DDE is the world’s largest diamond trading venue and home to over 1,150 diamond companies, providing members and industry professionals with state-of-the-art infrastructure, equipment, products and services for confident growth and trade.

Dubai is at the crossroads of the global diamond trade, with direct flights to leading diamond centres including Surat and Mumbai in India, Israel, Angola, South Africa and Belgium. DMCC’s ongoing work in the sector has made Dubai a leading diamond trading hub. In the first half of 2022, the United Arab Emirates recorded a total diamond trade of USD 19.8 billion, following a record 25% year-on-year increase.
