Dubai continues transition to green economy

Dubai continues to strengthen its position as a pioneer and leader in the transition to a green economy to support the UAE and the world’s efforts to combat the devastating effects of climate change. In October 2021, Dubai, through the Dubai Future Energy Council, launched an in-depth study outlining ways for the emirate to achieve carbon neutrality (net zero emissions) by 2050.

“The framework for achieving our zero-emission goals has already been defined and will help strengthen Dubai’s position as a leading driver of green initiatives that will help combat climate change and create a seamless pathway to realising our vision of economic prosperity that goes hand in hand with environmental sustainability,” said His Excellency Syed Mohammed Al Tayer, Chairman of the Dubai Future Energy Council, CEO and Chief Executive Officer of the Electricity and Water Authority

The World Green Economy Summit (WGES) 2022 will highlight ongoing global efforts, discuss sustainable action plans to combat the negative impacts of climate change and support collaborative initiatives to help the world achieve future sustainability through the transition to a green economy.

WGES is being organised by the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), the World Green Economy Organisation (WGEO) and the Dubai High Council of Energy in partnership with international organisations on 28-29 September 2022 at the Dubai World Trade Centre.

The summit will bring together prominent thought leaders and experts to exchange the latest views on climate change initiatives covering a wide range of sectors – transport and mobility, green technology, smart cities and urban planning, youth participation, investment and finance. The event will help delegates gather key takeaways from case study presentations and discussions of success stories from governments, big business and other organisations currently leading efforts to tackle climate change. A highlight of the Summit will be the unveiling of the 8th Dubai Declaration, which will embody new commitments guiding future strategies and action plans to support climate action and green economy initiatives.

Registration to attend WGES is free to the public and is now open at www.wges.ae.
