Electric abras to serve Global Village visitors

The Dubai Roads and Transport Authority will launch an abra electric vehicle tour service for Global Village visitors on Tuesday, October 25, in conjunction with the start of the Village’s 27th season.

“The RTA is always keen to launch an electric abra service every year with the start of the Global Village season, especially as abras have proved extremely popular with visitors. By offering passengers the opportunity to board a vehicle powered by renewable energy, we intend to create a positive experience that will encourage more visitors to the Global Village. The positive response is evidenced by the huge number of residents and visitors to the city,” commented Mohammed Abu Bakr Al Hashemi, Director of Maritime Transport at the RTA Public Transport Agency.

“We have approved a plan to operate two electric buses to serve Global Village guests this season. This service has proved extremely popular with visitors in previous seasons,” added Al Hashemi.

“Every year, Global Village plays an important role in boosting tourism in Dubai during the winter season. The RTA aims to increase tourist numbers by providing a wide range of public transport services, including sea transportation, represented by abras, Dubai Ferry, water bus and water taxi,” he added.

Maritime modes of transport are part of RTA’s core services. They are particularly attractive to tourists, as passengers will be able to enjoy scenic views and iconic landmarks of the city, as well as a smooth and pleasant ride while travelling around Dubai.

RTA’s marine vehicles have been designed by renowned ship manufacturers to the highest global standards. All amenities are available on board and safety and security measures have been taken. They also include special seats for people with disabilities, as well as spaces for bicycles and scooters, to facilitate integration between different modes of transport and support gentle mobility.
