Intel R&D centre to open in Dubai Internet City

At the GITEX Global 2022 event today, Dubai Internet City, the global business and technology hub that is part of TECOM Group PJSC, announced that it will host Intel’s newest artificial intelligence (AI) software development centre. The centre, the first of its kind in the GCC, will enhance the capabilities of Intel’s leading AI software solutions.

In line with the Middle East region’s digital transformation strategy, Intel and the centre will work closely with relevant AI ecosystems, software and academia in Dubai and connect with the entire region, enabling the company to build strategic partnerships, driving digital and fourth industrial revolution technologies, as well as creating a robust platform for sharing knowledge on the latest AI trends, technologies and solutions.

On behalf of Dubai Internet City, Ammar Al Malik, Executive Vice President of Commercial Leasing at TECOM Group PJSC, commented:

“For more than 20 years, Dubai Internet City has fostered a vibrant community of global large and medium-sized enterprises, SMEs and start-ups in one place. We are delighted that an industry leader such as Intel is opening an AI software research and development centre in our city, reinforcing Dubai’s position as a technology hub. Their opening reflects the continued confidence of the world’s largest technology companies in Dubai as a place to do business and innovate.”

Taha Khalifa, CEO of Intel Corporation Middle East, said: “As a global technology leader and long-standing trusted technology advisor to the Middle East region, Intel is pleased to expand its presence in the UAE through its AI software research and development centre.  Not only is the launch of the centre a milestone in Intel’s strategy to accelerate and align with its goals of digital transformation and economic diversification, but it also provides ample opportunity to collaborate with the region’s talented and growing technology ecosystem to further develop AI innovation to create global solutions for many segments, including healthcare, transportation and public safety.”

Intel will leverage its regional and global expertise to support advanced, cutting-edge AI products and services for Intel’s AI portfolio. The centre will work closely with the academic community to build a strong talent pool for future products and technologies, taking advantage of Dubai Internet City’s proximity to Dubai Knowledge Park and association with Dubai International Academic City.

Intel will also relocate AI experts from various global offices to bring international technical talent and skills to the community.

Dubai Internet City has been a cornerstone of the UAE’s economic diversification and digital transformation strategy for more than 20 years. This business district is home to Fortune 500 companies, SMEs, start-ups and entrepreneurs, and includes 15 customer-facing innovation centres that develop specialised technology solutions for the region and enhance global innovation to better meet the needs of local governments and businesses.
