DB Schenker Launches Third Mega Logistics Centre

DB Schenker has announced the launch of its third mega logistics centre in the Dubai South logistics district, marking the company’s continued successful growth in the MENA region.

The opening ceremony was attended by Mohsen Ahmad, CEO of the Logistics District – Dubai South, Christian Drenten, DB Schenker board member for ground transportation/contract logistics, Christopher Smith, DB Schenker general manager for Middle East and Africa, and Ako Djaf, vice president of contract logistics SCM Middle East and Africa at DB Schenker, as well as other senior executives from both companies.

The rooftop solar system at both sites will fully power 74,000 square metres of warehouse space and 5,000 square metres of office buildings, saving 4,000 tonnes of C02 emissions annually, the equivalent of planting over 400,000 trees.

The green logistics centre will provide a sustainable ecosystem for bonded and non-bonded operations, as well as an end-to-end integrated suite of goods and bespoke services for customers. The new state-of-the-art facility, which will serve as a distribution hub for the Gulf, will provide a single source for all logistics needs.

The third facility, which is also temperature-controlled, has a total area of 90,000 euro pallets and provides storage solutions for various industries, including the storage of dangerous goods and B2C e-commerce delivery services, using ideal connections to land, sea and air freight transport. The building also has a mezzanine floor of 5,000 square metres dedicated exclusively to various value-added services.

DB Schenker in the Middle East and Africa region has facilitated the entry of many international companies to expand its global presence in this high-potential market. This has made the company one of the fastest-growing logistics service providers in the region, increasing the total area of its logistics centres from 40,000 to 325,000 square metres in the last seven years.
