Travel smarter with Emirates

Emirates announces a host of ways to ensure a smooth and fast journey for families, including new updates to the Emirates app and digital check-in options. All passengers are advised to arrive at the airport 3 hours before departure and take advantage of Emirates’ many smart technologies to ensure a seamless journey during the busy period.

1.  Plan everything on the Emirates app

Passengers are advised to download the Emirates app on their mobile phone to have all flight information at their fingertips. Users can now track their luggage, book and change flights, download a digital boarding pass for most destinations, check what food will be served on board, book chauffeur services and even pre-select and plan movies to watch with ice inflight entertainment to keep the kids comfortable and happy on board.

2.  Check-in online or remotely at Ajman

All passengers can check in online up to 48 hours before departure using the online check-in option at www.emirates.com. With just a few clicks they can choose their seat and preferred meal, as well as take advantage of any last minute upgrade options. At the airport, it is easy to drop off luggage at dedicated baggage drop-off counters and download a digital boarding pass.

3.  Drop off your baggage in advance or check in from home

A great and comfortable option – especially for families travelling with children – is to drop off your baggage the night before. Passengers travelling from Dubai can check in ahead of time and drop off their luggage at the airport 24 hours before departure, or 12 hours if they’re flying into the US or Tel Aviv, then arrive at the airport and go straight through immigration control.

To make the journey quick and hassle-free, Emirates also offers a home check-in service in Dubai and Sharjah, operated by DUBZ. DUBZ agents complete the check-in process at the client’s home, hotel or office, and deliver the suitcases to the flight, and clients can proceed quietly to the airport. For First Class bookings, the home check-in service is free of charge.

4.  Self check-in kiosks at the airport

A quick and easy option when you’re at the airport is self-service check-in kiosks. Travellers can follow the steps on a touch screen kiosk and complete the check-in process or operate the kiosk without touching it using their mobile phone. You can view your travel itinerary, choose your preferred seat and add Emirates Skywards numbers, and if you’ve already checked in online, there’s also an option to use the baggage drop-off area to check your bags.

5.  Get smart with biometrics

For first and business class passengers departing from Dubai, Dubai International Airport has a ‘smart tunnel’ – the world’s first passport control system where passengers simply go through a tunnel and are cleared by immigration authorities without the need for human intervention or a physical stamp in their passport. To check in, just take a photo at the check-in counter to get the person’s details. Travellers can check in, go through immigration control, gain access to the airport lounge in Pavilion B and board flights at selected gates using face recognition or boarding passes only.
