Dubai parks get Green Flag Award

Dubai Municipality has raised green flags at three parks in the emirate to celebrate receiving the Green Flag Award, which recognises parks and resorts around the world that strive to adhere to the best international standards in improving the efficiency of public park management. The municipality raised green flags at Al Nakheel Park, Al Barsha Pond Park and Al Nahda Pond Park.

On the occasion, His Excellency Dawood Al Hajri, Director General of Dubai Municipality, said: “Dubai Municipality is constantly working to enhance the emirate’s distinctive global position by improving the city with places that meet the needs of members of the community and enhance their happiness, well-being and satisfaction.

“The fact that public parks are one of the most popular gathering places for members of all walks of life and residents inspires us to enhance their sustainability to the highest international standards,” said Al Hajri.

The winning parks offer many features to meet the different requirements and needs of their visitors, including the provision of warm-up facilities for adults, children’s games, walking paths, shaded seating areas, jogging and cycling paths, sports arenas, as well as carrying out landscaping work and meeting standards in providing amenities and services pleasing to People of Resolute.

The municipality also pays close attention to general hygiene, facility maintenance, nature conservation, heritage standards and many other features, which received unusually high praise from those who participated in the award.

Winning the Green Flag Award is a global affirmation of the effectiveness of parks and resorts through their commitment to the standards of the international accreditation programme, which monitors well-managed parks and green spaces around the world. The programme is managed internationally by the environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy, in partnership with a group of operators in many countries under licence from the British Government’s Department of Equalisation, Housing and Communities.
