Asian Classic Powerlifting Championships starts in Dubai

The Asian Classic Powerlifting Championship kicked off on December 2 at the Dubai Club for People of Determination and will run until December 7 with over 600 athletes from 29 Asian countries participating.

The first day of the event, organised by the Emirates Bodybuilding and Fitness Federation (EBBF) in collaboration with the Asian Powerlifting Federation, featured a women’s and youth lightweight competition with EBBF Chairman Sheikh Abdullah bin Hamad bin Saif Al Sharqi, Organising Committee Chairman Mohammed Abdul Rahim Al Marri and Asian Powerlifting Federation President Farshid Soltani.

The Asian Classic Powerlifting Championship includes three powerlifting categories: squat, bench press and deadlift.

Sheikh Abdullah expressed delight that the championship coincided with the 51st UAE National Day and over 600 powerlifters took part.

The first day saw fierce competition in the women’s youth category, with athletes from Kazakhstan, Hong Kong and Iran taking the top spots in their respective categories. Meanwhile, the powerlifters from the UAE are planning to compete in the second part of the Asian Classic Powerlifting Championship.
