20 Minute City to be built in Dubai

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, has approved the second phase of Dubai Master Plan 2040. It includes several projects under 10 key initiatives.

These include beautification and landscaping of urban neighbourhoods and public spaces, development of the real estate sector, farming, urban heritage conservation and development of the pedestrian network, as well as development of the “20 Minute City” development plan.

Sheikh Mohammed reviewed the progress of 17 projects and initiatives of the initial phase of Dubai Master Plan 2040. He noted that the authorities have a clear vision for the development of Dubai’s urban infrastructure and housing sector until 2040.

The ruler of Dubai specified that in the future the city will be greener and more pedestrian friendly, and will also benefit from the development of agriculture. The city will have five major centres, two of which already exist and three new ones will be built in the future.

A comprehensive strategy for Dubai’s real estate sector by 2040 will help to balance supply and demand, achieve sustainable development and increase investor confidence. In turn, the challenge for agriculture will be to ensure food security.

In the coming years, the authorities in Dubai, as part of the goals of the Master Development Plan, will focus on enhancing the emirate’s identity, promoting its historic areas, monuments and buildings, and developing archaeological sites.

The 20 Minute City strategy entails the creation of integrated service centres with the necessary equipment. They will enable any resident of the emirate to reach their destination in 20 minutes on foot or by bicycle.

Urban spaces will also become more attractive to the population. Residential neighbourhoods are planned to be developed on an integrated street principle. The main aim of the master plan is to make Dubai a better city to live in.
