DBE to host 232 business events in 2022
Dubai Business Events (DBE), the city’s official convention bureau, part of the Department of Economy and Tourism, said it had won 232 applications to host business events in 2022, almost double the previous year.
The events to be held in the coming years will attract an additional 135,000 visitors to Dubai, including academics, thought leaders and business executives, adding value to the business events and tourism ecosystem. DBE worked with a range of stakeholders to successfully bid for the event, including Al Safeer Congress Ambassadors and the public and private organisations they represent, industry partners including Dubai World Trade Centre and Emirates, as well as hotels and professional congress organisers (PCOs) across the city.
Beyond the immediate impact, events including flagship conferences and congresses organised by international associations, as well as prestigious corporate meetings hosted by multinationals, will contribute to Dubai’s growth as a centre of the knowledge economy. In 2022, Dubai won bids to host a record number of conferences from 57 associations, the highest ever for DBE. The successful bids are a testament to the organisation’s efforts to raise Dubai’s profile among international associations across a wide range of industries.
The strong performance in 2022 means a 95% increase in successful applications compared to 2021 and a 92% increase in the number of delegates, further accelerating Dubai’s growth momentum.
Major association events held in 2022 include the International Federation of Clinical Chemistry and Laboratory Medicine World Laboratory Congress 2024, International Congress of Endocrinologists 2024, World Congress of Sports Medicine 2024, International Society of Radiology and Radiological Technology World Congress 2026 and International Symposium on Dental Hygiene 2028.
Meanwhile, corporate meetings and incentive travel programmes for which Dubai won the tender include IBM India and Europe Incentives 2023, Terpel Convention 2023, Envista EMEA Summit 2023 and Mary Kay Mexico Incentive 2024.
In addition to bidding, DBE has continually drawn the attention of meeting planners and association executives to Dubai through an intensive year-round calendar of nearly 200 global sales events, including familiarisation missions, roadshows and participation in major trade fairs. Overall, this has resulted in Dubai’s business events offering becoming better known to meeting planners in 33 markets around the world through face-to-face interactions – all backed up by marketing and PR activities.
To build on the success of 2022, DBE is once again embarking on year-round activities in Dubai to further highlight the city’s strengths and opportunities as a business events destination. This includes trade missions to key target markets and participation in major trade fairs, including IBTM World and IMEX. DBE will also join forces with industry stakeholders to host a series of introductory missions for meeting planners in Dubai, allowing them to see first-hand Dubai’s business events and tourism infrastructure, as well as its rapidly growing knowledge economy.
