Sky Adventures: first paragliding centre in Sharjah
The first licensed paragliding centre in the desert of Sharjah, Sky Adventures, has opened its doors to paragliding enthusiasts. The sports centre is open to both amateurs and professionals. Paragliders take off from Al Faya Mountain over the Mleiha Desert.
Sky Adventures offers three activity options: a pairs flight with a professional instructor, a basic paragliding training course with an international license and a flight programme for licensed athletes to improve their skills.
The Pair flight with an instructor takes place from an altitude of 300 meters and lasts 10-15 minutes (including preflight preparation and safety instruction). The course lasts 4 days and consists of 4 3-hour sessions, including theory and practice sessions with a professional instructor, at the end of which a student can make 5 solo flights and get an International Glider’s License.
The programme for licensed skydivers includes a 500m flight over central Sharjah under the supervision of a professional instructor. The package also includes full ground handling, weather assessment and equipment rental.
With the new centre Sharjah Authorities aim to promote the sporting culture in the Emirate. The Sky Adventures centre is an initiative of the Sharjah Shurooq Investment and Development Authority, in cooperation with the Emirates Aerospace Foundation.
Earlier, Dubai launched the #DubaiDestinations interactive guide which tells residents and visitors of the emirate about this winter’s sporting and fitness opportunities. The authors have listed the main locations for outdoor sports and fitness centres where one can maintain a healthy lifestyle.
The guide includes a comprehensive list of cycling, walking and running tracks in the Emirate, including the 50km sand cycle track in Mushrif National Park, the Al Khawaneej walking and cycling track, the mountain bike trail in Hatta, the Nad Al Sheba cycle park and many others.
The guide also lists clubs, stadiums and academies where you can play football, basketball and badminton and has special sections for padel tennis, lawn tennis, volleyball, golf and equestrian sports. The interactive guide is available in English and Arabic.
