Dubai Art Season returns in 2023

Dubai Culture has announced the relaunch of Dubai Art Season in 2023, which will feature a rich programme of art and music events highlighting Dubai’s international standing and exceptional cultural experience.

This year’s Dubai Art Season will take place under the theme “Take a Walk on the Art Side” and includes a range of initiatives that will transform Dubai into an oasis of inclusive art throughout February and March 2023. It will include the Emirates Airline Literature Festival, Sikka Art and Design Festival, Art Dubai, Dubai Opera performances, DIFC Art Nights and many other entertainment events.

Dubai Art Season kicked off with the Emirates Airline Literature Festival, in partnership with Dubai Culture from 1-6 February at the InterContinental Hotel Dubai Festival City and Mohammed Bin Rashid Library. The 15th edition will be attended by more than 250 global personalities. It will also feature a joint session between Her Excellency Reem Al Hashemi, Minister of State for International Cooperation, and Her Excellency Hala Badri, Director General of Dubai Culture, to discuss the UAE’s experience in shaping the future. Further sessions will focus on Bil Emirati, sponsored by Dubai Culture, featuring a panel of eminent Emirati writers and artists.

The Taste of Dubai Festival will also return to present a diverse culinary experience from some of Dubai and the region’s finest chefs and restaurants.

Marking the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the UAE and Japan, Dubai Culture is partnering with the Japanese Consulate in Dubai to produce ‘Dubai in 1962’, an exhibition featuring unique photographs of the emirate taken by Japanese photographer Yoshio Kawashima of Sankei Shimbun newspaper during his visit to Dubai and the Middle East that year. The exhibition at the Al Safa Art and Design Library, which runs from 30 January to 17 March 2023, documents the heritage, history and daily life of Dubai at the time.

AYA, located in Wafi City and the first of a new generation of immersive, experimental entertainment parks in the emirate offering interactive and immersive art experiences, is also part of the Dubai Art Season 2023 calendar, inviting visitors to step into a vast universe of vibrant interactive experiences in 12 different zones, each with its own unique theme and elements based on the latest technology.

The 11th Sikka Art & Design Festival, organised by Dubai Culture at the historic Al Fahidi Quarter from 24 February to 5 March 2023, is a celebration of visual arts featuring Emirati, UAE and Gulf talents.

Throughout February and March, Alserkal Avenue and the Alserkal Arts Foundation will host a series of creative cultural events, including a wide range of art exhibitions, talks and events such as the Tree School initiative, a gathering place for groups and individuals interested in learning from each other and sharing common pressing issues based on life experiences. The programme also includes art walks, designed to offer alternative ways of interacting with and engaging with art, while slowly and deeply absorbing the artists’ work.

“DIFC Art Nights is one of Gate Avenue’s most important annual events. The event attracts over 4,000 people each year, including artists, collectors and fashionistas. It aims to support Dubai’s art scene and highlight the most creative works.

The programme for the season includes the 16th edition of Art Dubai, which will take place at Madinat Jumeirah from March 1-5, 2023. Alongside art discussions, the exhibition will feature a session by Etihad Museum, organised by Dubai Culture, where a range of artists and creatives will gather to present new ideas inspired by the crafts, reflecting their vision for the future of the craft.

The ‘M2L Market’ at Gate Avenue – DIFC will focus on entertainment, art and food, giving visitors the opportunity to experience different experiences and sample new international flavours.

Throughout the year, Dubai Opera will present a series of music and theatre performances that highlight the creativity of regional and international performing and musical talents, while the digital art centre Infinity des Lumières at Dubai Mall will present digital art exhibitions in an innovative technological manner during the same period.
