Latifa bint Mohammed awards winner of the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships
Her Highness Sheikha Latifa bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairman of the Dubai Arts and Culture Authority and member of the Dubai Council, today crowned Barbora Krejcikova of the Czech Republic as the winner in the women’s singles at the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai.
Krejcikova was honoured at the ceremony held at the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Stadium after she capped an exciting week of WTA 1000 at the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships with a stunning 6-4, 6-2 victory over world number one Iga Swentek in Saturday’s final.
Together with Her Highness Sheikha Latifa bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, His Highness Sheikh Ahmed Bin Saeed Al Maktoum, President of the Dubai Civil Aviation Authority, Chairman of Dubai Airports and Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Emirates Airline & Group, His Highness Sheikh Hasher Bin Maktoum Al Maktoum, President of the UAE Tennis Federation; Colm McLaughlin, Executive Vice Chairman and CEO of Dubai Duty Free; Nasser Yousef Al Marzouki, Secretary General of the UAE Tennis Federation; Salah Tahlak, Chief Operating Officer of Dubai Duty Free and Director of Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships; and Sinead El Sibai, Senior Vice President of Marketing of Dubai Duty Free were attending the ceremony.
The 23rd edition of the WTA Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships witnessed a fierce battle between 18 of the world’s top 20 players. The tournament, one of the most significant international sporting events held in Dubai, kicked off last Sunday while celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA).
“It was a great final, I played one of my best tennis and am very happy with the result. I really admire Iga for what she has done and is doing in the game, I have a lot of respect for her – she is an inspiration to me. It was a great final and I’m definitely very happy with the result,” Krejcikova said after winning in straight sets.
