Designs of Hope exhibition comes back to Dubai

Al Manal Humanitarian Initiative will organise the eighth edition of the Designs of Hope charity exhibition from 5-7 April 2023 at Dubai Ladies Club (DLC) under the patronage of Her Highness Sheikha Manal bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, President of UAE Gender Balance Council (UAE GBC) and President of Dubai Women Establishment (DWE).

All proceeds from the exhibition will go to Dubai Cares to support programmes to integrate climate change into the curriculum and education system.

Her Highness Sheikha Manal bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum confirmed that since its launch in July 2013, the Al Manal Humanitarian Initiative aims to enhance local and regional humanitarian efforts in line with Emirati values, which emphasise the importance of humanitarian action. Al Manal Humanitarian Initiative projects are in line with the values and principles laid down by the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, who was known for his humanitarian efforts and helping people around the world, regardless of gender, religion or race.

Her Highness said: “The time has come for education systems around the world to urgently address climate change as it is a fundamental issue related to the sustainability of humanity and it is very important to inform new generations through advanced and effective education systems that persuade to participate and act responsibly, whether through social behaviour or innovation.”

Her Highness expressed pride in the UAE’s efforts and engagement in addressing all global challenges – through supporting the search for solutions that benefit all humanity, including climate change, noting that the country’s hosting of the twenty-eighth session of the Conference of Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP28) in November 2023 at Expo City Dubai will bring the world together to agree on bold, practical and ambitious solutions to the most pressing global challenge of our time. As COP28’s exclusive education partner, Dubai Cares will host the second edition of its flagship climate summit, RewirEd, at the conference to put education at the forefront of the global climate agenda.

As part of its efforts to globally transform education, Dubai Cares is highlighting the importance of including climate change in education to raise awareness of the negative impacts that climate change can have on all developing and developed countries. These negative impacts include increased hunger, heat waves, fires, rising sea levels, flooding, melting polar ice, catastrophic storms, deterioration of biodiversity, and various health consequences, especially for children and women. Funds raised from the eighth edition of Designs of Hope will support the integration of climate change issues into education, contributing to the Sustainable Development Goals related to health, education and gender balance.
