Dubai weekend sports events digest

15 different international and local sporting events will take place this weekend at different locations in Dubai in collaboration with the Dubai Sports Council, including four international championships.

First on the list of these sporting events is the World Footvolley Championship, which is scheduled to take place on 28 and 29 April 2023 at the JBR Hilton Jumeirah Hotel with 32 players representing 16 teams from France, Italy, Denmark, the UK, America, Romania, Egypt, Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan, Brazil and Turkey in addition to the UAE. Several well-known players will take part in the championship, including renowned Brazilian international Anderson Aguia / former Dutch star Edgar Davids / Tariq Ahmed, youth team star Al Ahli / Huria Al Tahri, the coach of the women’s national team. The competition will start at 02:00pm on Friday and at 09:00am on Saturday.

The Asian Badminton Championships, hosted by Dubai for the first time, continues at the Al Nasr Sports Club with 300 men and women from 28 nations, including nine players classified in the world’s top rankings, and they will compete in various five categories, including men’s singles, women’s singles, men’s doubles, women’s doubles and mixed categories.

The second leg of the Dubai Fishing Championships (Kingfish & Skull) will be organised by the Dubai International Marine Club from Thursday 27th to Sunday 30th April.

The International Schoolboys Basketball Championship will be held from April 28 to 30 at Aflec French School in Al-Nasr Club – Oud Maitha with participation of 30 teams from different countries and will be targeted at students aged 14. The competition is scheduled from 09:00 am to 06:00 pm.

On Saturday 29 April, the Emirate of Dubai will host the FCC International Boxing Championships at the FCC Hall in Al-Quz.The championship will feature 18 strong bouts involving 38 boxers from France, Ireland, Mexico, Portugal, Russia, Scotland, UK, America, Egypt, Cameroon, India, Jordan, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Morocco, Kenya, Nigeria, Pakistan, Philippines, Tajikistan, Uganda, Uzbekistan and Zambia.

The Strong Weightlifting Championships will be held on Saturday 29 April at the Strong Gym Club in Al Kuz.

The Community Mountain Bike Champions race will be held on Sunday, April 30 on the mountain bike course in Mushrif Park. Participants in the race will compete in three categories, namely: 6km, 10km and 20km.

Dubai Polo and Equestrian Club is organising the Eid Polo Challenge Cup on Sunday 30 April at the club grounds. The famous Sketchers Run will be organised at Rashid Port near Deira Islands and is aimed at age groups from 9 to 99 years old, who will compete in three categories, namely: 3km, 5km and 10km.
