Emirates introduces robotic assistant

For the first time ever, a robotic assistant has been hired by Emirates Airline to check in passengers. The robot, named Sarah, has been installed at ICD Brookfield Place at Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC), the location of the airline’s in-city check-in service.

Open daily from 08:00 to 22:00, the centre accepts luggage from passengers no earlier than 24 hours and no later than four hours before departure. In addition, the service offers services such as flight reservations, check-in and the purchase of pre-flight essentials.

Passengers can check in via self-check-in kiosks, dedicated desks at Emirates agents or with the help of Sarah. For the first time, they will interact with a robot that can scan their faces, check them against passport photos and issue boarding passes. In the future, robots will be able to carry luggage.
