Emirates and Etihad launch unified airfare
Emirates and Etihad Airways have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to expand an interline agreement that will provide travellers with additional options when visiting the United Arab Emirates.
This is the first such agreement between the world’s two largest airlines, which aims to increase tourist traffic from other countries to the UAE by enabling travellers to visit multiple cities as part of a single trip.
This summer, customers of both airlines will be able to purchase a single ticket for a flight to Dubai or Abu Dhabi with a convenient return flight from another airport.
The new agreement also provides travellers planning to visit the United Arab Emirates with more one-stop ticketing options for the entire journey and convenient baggage check-in.
In the first phase, each airline will focus on attracting tourists from Europe and China by increasing inbound interline traffic. The new ability to plan an itinerary with a departure from another airport will allow customers to visit Dubai, Abu Dhabi and other emirates without having to return to the arrival airport.
Passengers will also be able to take advantage of multi-city flights, allowing them to depart from any city and return to another destination within the Emirates and Etihad route networks.
Tourism is a key driver of the UAE economy. By 2027, the tourism industry is expected to account for 5.4%, or US$ 31.6 billion, of the country’s total GDP and create over 1 billion jobs.
