Emirates abolishes boarding passes
From 15 May 2023, Emirates has scrapped paper boarding passes – passengers departing from Dubai will now only use a digital copy to board their flight.
Passengers checking in at Terminal 3 will receive their boarding passes by SMS or email. Those checking in online can add their mobile boarding pass to their Apply Wallet or Google Wallet.
Passengers can retrieve their boarding passes via the Emirates mobile app, where they will also find their checked baggage receipt. Its electronic version will also be sent to passengers.
It is clarified that the switch to digital check-in will help make the process faster and more convenient, as well as reduce the risk of losing their boarding passes and provide passengers with peace of mind during their journey.
The electronic boarding pass can be presented at Dubai Duty Free shops and security checkpoints – simply showing a QR code to staff for scanning.
For those travelling with an infant in their arms, unaccompanied minors and people with special needs, it will still be necessary to print the boarding pass. Those travelling to the US or on other airlines will also need a paper version of the ticket.
In April, Emirates hired a robotic assistant to check passengers in for a flight. The robot, named Sarah, works at Dubai International Financial Centre’s (DIFC) ICD Brookfield Place building, which houses the airline’s city check-in service.
Open daily from 08:00 to 22:00, the centre accepts luggage from passengers no earlier than 24 hours and no later than four hours before departure. In addition, the service offers services such as ticket reservations, check-in and the purchase of pre-flight essentials.
Passengers can check in via self-check-in kiosks, dedicated desks at Emirates agents or with the help of Sarah. For the first time, they will interact with a robot that can scan their faces, check them against passport photos and issue boarding passes. In the future, robots will be able to carry luggage.
