UAE issues clarifications for residents abroad
The United Arab Emirates Federal Authority for Identification and Citizenship, Customs and Port Security (ICP) has issued clarifications regarding the validity of resident visas for UAE residents staying abroad for more than six months in a year.
Residents will be required to explain the reason for their prolonged absence from the UAE in order to obtain an entry permit, but Dubai residents holding gold visas are exempt from this requirement. Self-sponsored residents apply for entry clearance themselves, company-sponsored residents apply through their sponsoring organisation.
The application can be made through the UAEICP’s smart app – the cost of the service is AED 150. If the application is approved, a fine of AED 100 will be charged for every 30 days or less spent out of the country. Applicants must enter the UAE within 30 days of the application being approved.
The department has also introduced a new service in the smart app that allows individuals to remotely renew their Emirates ID card and UAE passport. Applicants must make the application on the app in person, proving that they are the owner of the documents.
If the request is submitted through print centres or by someone other than the document holder, it will be rejected once it is found that the applicant is outside the UAE. Authorities are urging citizens to adhere to the official dress code when taking photos for documents.
