Centre for Artificial Intelligence opened in Dubai

His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, has announced the launch of a new Centre for Artificial Intelligence in the emirate. The sector has now reached US$ 111 billion.

The new centre aims to help the public sector introduce future technologies in key sectors of the economy and help Dubai become a hub for technological innovation. The plan is for the Dubai government to become the best in the world in terms of implementing AI.

Sheikh Hamdan urged employees of all government agencies in Dubai to apply generative AI tools to improve productivity and optimise public services.

“We want to see the practical application of generative AI technologies in our public sector. Technological development is going very fast and we want to use new technologies for the benefit of the public,” said Sheikh Hamdan.

The challenge, he said, is to ensure that the new AI-based government tools show tangible results. The Dubai Centre for Artificial Intelligence is to train 1,000 civil servants from more than 30 government organisations to use generative artificial intelligence.

Other targets include launching dozens of pilot projects to improve the productivity of civil servants and supporting more than 20 local and global start-ups in cutting-edge technology.

In particular, the Crown Prince expects transformational change in healthcare, education, the economy, the media and the public sector. The Dubai Future Fund, Dubai Electricity and Water Authority, Dubai Media Council and Dubai Digital Authority will oversee the implementation of the centre’s objectives.

It is noted that the centre will develop legislation on modern technology, examine the ethical and social implications of building generative AI applications. The centre’s initiatives will reinforce Dubai’s status as a regional leader in research, development and innovation.
