MBRU celebrates graduation in Dubai Opera

The Mohammed Bin Rashid University of Medicine and Health Sciences (MBRU) celebrated its graduation year 2023 at a ceremony held at the Dubai Opera House. A total of 35% of the graduates were Emirati nationals, reflecting the growing enthusiasm for medical education in the UAE.

With 136 graduates from various medical professions and 29 nationalities, the 2023 edition is an example of MBRU’s commitment to inclusivity and excellence in medical education. The graduates showcased an exceptional mix of talent from Hamdan Bin Mohammed College of Dental Medicine, College of Nursing and Midwifery, College of Medicine and Department of Postgraduate Medical Education.

This year’s ceremony, which marks the first time that all postgraduate programmes offered by Dubai Academic Health Corporation have celebrated the achievements of graduates from 56 medical residency programmes and 18 fellowship programmes. Remarkably, 78 per cent of this cohort were successful female students.

The guest of honour at the ceremony, Sultan Al Neyadi, the first Arab astronaut to have been in space and currently on a six-month space mission, gave a stirring opening speech from the International Space Station (ISS).

“Medicine and space exploration are interlinked and without comprehensive medical training, we will not be able to undertake space missions, conduct scientific research, contribute to humanity and bring all the benefits of technology and space to Earth,” he said, adding that he has been able to participate in numerous medical experiments on the ISS during the past three months, collaborating with local universities such as MBRU.

Celebrating its seventh anniversary on 9 June 2016, MBRU is proud to be among the six universities in the UAE to have received high confidence accreditation from the UAE Ministry of Education (MOE). It was recently selected by the MOE to launch the first phase of an automated credentialing service.  The university has made significant contributions to the field of healthcare with more than 1,000 peer-reviewed publications. Today, the MBRU offers 43 programmes in various medical specialties.
