Dubai residents urged to use air conditioners properly
Emirates Central Cooling Systems Corporation (Empower) has urged the people of Dubai to set their indoor air cooling systems to +24°C and put them on automatic mode to avoid overspending energy during the summer season.
The company noted that the debilitating heatwave is driving people to reduce the air-cooling temperature to the minimum, which comes with huge energy wastage. As a consequence, users get huge utility bills.
Ahmad Bin Shafar, CEO of Empower, explained that putting air conditioners in automatic mode at +24°C is an ideal option for efficient room cooling, which also helps to conserve natural resources.
The United Arab Emirates is currently developing an air conditioner that will be 10 times more powerful than models currently used for space cooling.
The project is being implemented by Strata, the aerospace division of Mubadala Investment Company, and German companies Hyperganic and EOS. The partnership aims to create the world’s most energy-efficient residential air-conditioning system, an ideal example of innovation that promotes sustainable development and has a positive impact on the economy.
It is anticipated that the demand for space conditioning will increase manifold over the coming decades. For example, as early as 2050, 5.6 billion air conditioning units will be cooling buildings – 4 billion more than in 2018. In the Gulf region, 70% of all electricity generation is spent on air conditioning.
Using the new model, which will be 10 times more efficient, will help reduce the burden on the electricity grid. The new project is expected to be demonstrated at the Cop28 Global Climate Summit in the UAE in 2023.
