Cartoon characters welcome children at Dubai Airport

The Directorate General of Residence and Alien Affairs in Dubai, in collaboration with Dubai Passport Services staff, warmly welcomed the first group of children arriving at Dubai International Airport, where the children were greeted by their favourite local cartoon characters Salem and Salama and Modesh and Dana, popular figures associated with the Dubai Shopping Festival.

Escorted from the plane doors, the children were taken to the passport counters where they were given the unique opportunity to stamp their passports themselves. In addition, the children were given commemorative gifts and posed for pictures and videos together with cartoon characters.

The initiative is part of GDRFA’s ongoing efforts to create an atmosphere of happiness during Eid al-Adha and is in line with the Department of Economy and Tourism (DEE) campaign with the support of Dubai Festival and Retail Authority (DFRE). The campaign is timed to coincide with the opening of the 29th Dubai Shopping Festival and aims to give a warm welcome to children travelling to Dubai by ensuring that entry procedures at special counters are unhindered.

Lieutenant General Mohammed Ahmed Al Marri, Director General of GDRFA Headquarters, stressed that GDRFA, in collaboration with strategic partners, aimed to create an unusual and unconventional experience for the opening of child passport control desks. To make it truly special, it was decided that the first group of children to set foot on the airport grounds would be given the honour of launching the counters.

Lieutenant General Al Marri said that this special welcome for children would continue throughout the Dubai Shopping Festival and beyond, as it is an integral part of Dubai’s heritage to extend hospitality to all visitors.
