UAE residents are the world’s most active internet users
99 per cent of the UAE residents are active internet users, the number is the highest in the world, according to a report by the Telecommunications and Digital Authority (TDRA).
UAE residents have created 10 million active social media accounts, representing 105.5 per cent of the country’s total population. Users are also actively searching the internet for job and education information, shopping and entertainment.
Download speeds on smartphones, according to the report, reached 161.15 Mbps (+2.3% compared to 2022), as download speeds over fixed networks reached 207.41 Mbps. On average, UAE residents spend 2.33 hours on social media every day.
Over the past year, they downloaded apps 569 million times and spent AED 1.587bn on them (spending on app purchases grew by 25.3% over the year).
Earlier, a global Speedtest report published by web service Ookla reported that mobile internet speeds in the United Arab Emirates are the fastest in the world.
According to the study, the UAE has a download speed of 204.24 Mbps and upload speed of 22.72 Mbps. The Emirates topped the rankings for five of the six months of 2023, with the country coming second in April.
In terms of fixed broadband speeds, the United Arab Emirates ranked second globally and first in June with a download speed of 239.2 Mbps. Singapore topped the global list with an average speed of 247.29 Mbps.
