Luxury car number plates to be auctioned in Dubai

The Dubai Roads and Transport Authority is auctioning 90 premium car number plates. It is specified that the auction will begin on 2 September, Saturday. Traditionally, collectors and investors take part in them.

At the 113th auction they will be offered elite two-, three-, four- and five-digit numbers, including: AA70, Y96, Z43, S888, W22222, X7777, X300 and W10000. Registration for the auction will begin on Monday 28 August.

The auction will be held at the InterContinental Festival City Hotel in Dubai. Registration can be done on the RTA website (www.rta.ae), on the Dubai Drive app or at any of the RTA’s customer service centres in Umm Al Ramoul, Deira and Al Barsha.

In April, an auction of car number plates in Dubai caused a big stir – even the creator of the Telegram messenger Pavel Durov took part in it. The auction raised 100 million dirhams (US$ 27 million) for the world’s largest food fund, One Billion Meals.

The real battle was over the car’s P7 licence plate, which went under the hammer for a record 55 million dirhams (US$ 15 million). According to some media reports, Pavel Durov offered US$ 9.5 million. As a result, the record of 2008 was broken, when the number 1 in Abu Dhabi was purchased for AED 52.2 million (US$ 14.2 million).

Number AA22 was the second most expensive lot – it went to the new owner for AED 8.4 million (US$ 2.3 million), number AA19 was purchased for AED 4.9 million (US$ 1.34 million).
