First AI film competition kicks off in Dubai

The Expo City Dubai Free Zone has launched the region’s first festival of films created using artificial intelligence (AI) technology. Authors of short films created by AI are invited to participate in a competition timed to coincide with the festival.

The film festival is said to explore the use of AI in creative storytelling and filmmaking. It will run for six months, during which there will be an international competition itself, film screenings, panel discussions and workshops with AI experts and filmmakers.

The winners will be announced at an awards ceremony on 29 February 2024. According to Marjan Faraydouni, head of education and culture at Expo City Dubai, the inaugural festival will explore the relationship between creativity and technology, human ingenuity and artificial intelligence.

As previously reported, international companies such as Emirates, DP World, Siemens and Engie will open offices in the Expo City Dubai Free Economic Zone in September 2023. It is planned that around 3,000 employees of these companies will move to the new neighbourhood.

The Finnish pavilion will house Fin Gulf, the Australian pavilion will house the University of Wollongong’s Centre for Data Science, Discovery and Innovation, and the China pavilion will also be home to a business centre.

The Expo City Dubai exhibition centre is accessible by metro. There are many cultural, educational, entertainment and shopping centres within a 15-minute walk or cycle ride.

The Expo City Dubai Freezone Authority is dedicated to developing relationships with other countries, international organisations, institutions and investment funds, and enhancing Dubai’s position as a leading destination for global exhibitions and events.

Dubai Expo City will cater to local and international companies working in the field of sustainability technologies. Freezone residents will benefit from advanced infrastructure, including mobile networks supporting fifth generation (5G) connectivity.
