Dubai Run to take place in November
The annual Dubai Run, one of the largest races in the world, is held every year as part of the Dubai Fitness Challenge festival. This year’s marathon will take place on 26 November, and will be free and open to participants of all ages and fitness levels.
The organisers of the Dubai Run, during which participants occupy the 14-lane Sheikh Zayed Road for several hours, hope to break the record before the race even starts – the number of registered participants is expected to exceed 200,000. Last year, 193,000 people took part in the fitness event. His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, regularly participates in the race, including last year.
Marathon participants can choose between 5km or 10km routes. For the safety of runners, the number of places on each route is limited and the first race will start at 4am. Participants are advised to arrive early to secure a comfortable spot for the start of the race. Latecomers may not be able to complete the entire route. The marathon must be completed by 8.30am for the roads to reopen to car traffic.
Both the 5km and 10km routes give participants a once-a-year opportunity to run along Sheikh Zayed Road. The 5km route starts near the Museum of the Future. It then passes by the Burj Khalifa and Dubai Opera House before finishing near Dubai Mall. This route is suitable for runners of all ages and all athletic abilities.
The 10km route also starts near the Museum of the Future, runs along Sheikh Zayed Road to the Dubai Water Canal, then returns to Dubai World Trade Centre, and finishes on Al Mustaqbal Street near the Dubai International Financial Centre. This route is suitable for more experienced runners.
