Dubai seeks solution to traffic jams
Dubai authorities are studying whether telecommuting and flexible work schedules will help solve the problem of traffic congestion. Thus, private sector employees have been invited to take part in a survey.
The survey was organised by the Dubai Statistics Centre and the Emirate’s Roads and Transport Authority. All data is collected confidentially and will be used to analyse the situation.
Some workers believe that public and private sector companies need more financial incentives to adjust work schedules to help ease traffic during peak hours.
The study examines whether employers offer their employees flexible schedules for office visits. Earlier, Omar Al Olama, Minister of State for Digital Economy, Artificial Intelligence Technology and Remote Work System, said that working practices need to be updated to develop the country.
According to the minister, about 46 per cent of workers in the UAE work remotely, so working from home can be a qualitative and competitive advantage for the UAE to improve the quality of life for residents and visitors.
The Dubai Roads and Transport Authority previously announced that by 2026, all roads in Dubai will be equipped with an innovative intelligent traffic management system (ITS). The system was first launched in November 2020. It has helped reduce journey times by 20 per cent and improved road safety control by 63 per cent.
The centre is connected to an 820km fibre optic network and 425 video cameras, including Dubai Police cameras. It is also equipped with 235 incident monitoring and vehicle counting devices, 115 travel time measuring devices, 112 electronic signage and 17 road weather information systems.
