5G-enabled ambulances introduced in UAE

The United Arab Emirates has unveiled a new generation of ambulances connected to 5G networks. This feature will help reduce the response time of emergency teams and save many lives.

The development was demonstrated by Response Plus Medical (RPM), headquartered in Abu Dhabi, and telecoms operator etisalat by e&. The new feature will enable remote diagnostics, allowing seamless communication between patients, ambulance staff and medical experts.

The fleet consists of more than 350 ambulances connected to 5G networks, which will be able to locate patients who require immediate assistance at critical times faster, as well as provide real-time transmission of a patient’s vital signs from the vehicle to the hospital.

In 2022, Dubai unveiled the most expensive and fastest ambulance in the world – the AED13 million (US$ 3.5 million) Lykan HyperSport Supercar was converted into a special purpose vehicle.

The brainchild of Dubai-based Emirati company W Motors is capable of reaching speeds of up to 400km/h, medics will use the HyperSport Responder as an emergency response vehicle. A total of seven such supercars have been built worldwide, powered by Porsche’s super-strong twin-turbocharged engines.
