DXB presents new destinations

Dubai International Airport (DXB) is gearing up for the biggest loads in its history. There are currently 4,400 weekly flights (one-way) from DXB, a 20 per cent increase from the previous winter season.

In addition, seven international airlines have launched new flights to nine destinations: Aegean Airlines: ATH – Athens, Air Canada: YVR – Vancouver, Batik Air: KUL – Kuala Lumpur, Eurowings: BER – Berlin and STR – Stuttgart, Transavia: LYS – Lyon and MRS – Marseille, Virgin Atlantic Airways: LHR – London, TUS Airways: LCA – Larnaca.

“The new services and increased frequency of flights in the winter schedule reaffirms our commitment to developing DXB as the largest hub and further positioning the airport as a dynamic and competitive player in the global aviation landscape,” said Rob Whitehouse, vice president of research at Dubai Airports.

The winter season, especially around Christmas and New Year, has always been one of the busiest periods for DXB, with expats flying off to see their families and thousands of visitors travelling to the city for the holidays.

The airport usually sends out peak period alerts to help passengers prepare for the holiday rush. Airport officials have issued a number of tips for travellers.

They recommend using smart gates to get through passport control in seconds, arriving at the airport three to four hours before departure, using online services and self-service systems wherever possible.

It is also advisable to weigh your luggage at home, and check your documents beforehand to get through security quickly.

Also, keep in mind that airport roads can be congested at peak times, so it is advisable to take this into account to get to the airport on time. And to avoid traffic jams, the easiest thing to do is to use the Dubai Metro.
