RTA announces construction of new bridge

The Dubai Roads and Transport Authority has announced the construction of a huge 1500 metre bridge that will connect Sheikh Zayed Highway (the emirate’s main thoroughfare) with the new seaside district of Dubai Harbour.

The new bridge will reduce the journey time between the two neighbourhoods from 12 minutes to three minutes. It will have a capacity of 6,000 vehicles per hour. The construction will be carried out in partnership with Shamal Holding Group.

The bridge will be dual carriageway in each direction and four intersections will also be transformed in the construction zone. Thus, a significant relief awaits the residents of the nearby neighbourhoods. In addition, the seaside area, which is already becoming a centre for people, commerce and hospitality, will also receive new development.

In the summer of 2023, the Dubai Roads and Transport Authority has made life much easier for residents and visitors to Dubai Marina. Thanks to new transport solutions, motorists will spend 67 per cent less time on the road.

In particular, the new road projects make it easier to exit Dubai Marina via Al Seba Street – the journey time to Sheikh Zayed Highway, Dubai’s main thoroughfare, will be reduced from 30 to 10 minutes.

To relieve pressure on the internal roads, the authority has urged Dubai residents to use the new exit towards Sheikh Zayed Highway and Garn Al Sabkha Street, which has a capacity of 1,500 vehicles per hour.

The new exit makes it easier to exit the Dubai Marina neighbourhood in all directions. The total capacity of Al Seba Street using all the exits has increased by 266 per cent, from 900 to 2,400 vehicles per hour. The new transport solution will help reduce congestion on Al Marsa Street, especially at its intersection with Al Sayorah Street.
