Dozens of new parks opened in Abu Dhabi

On the eve of Eid-al-Fitr, 21 parks with sports and playgrounds suitable for families were opened in Abu Dhabi. The parks are spread across Khalifa City and offer a range of facilities and activities for children and adults.

Outdoor facilities include padel tennis, volleyball and badminton courts, as well as parkour and cricket courts. There are also basketball courts and a football pitch. Two parks have specially designed playgrounds for people with disabilities.

The new parks will also have outdoor seating and barbecue areas where you can gather with friends and grill lunch or dinner.

For owners of four-legged friends, there are walking areas where you can let your pets off the leash and send them for a free walk in the fresh air.

By the end of 2024, Abu Dhabi’s Department of Municipalities and Transport (DMT) plans to lay out around 150 new parks and green spaces, as well as improve many of the existing ones.

Hamad Al Mutawa, executive director of DMT’s planning and infrastructure sector, said: “The opening of these parks is part of DMT’s wider initiative to enhance the quality of life in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi. These parks have been carefully designed to meet the specific needs of each neighbourhood, offering residents and visitors the opportunity to connect with nature, socialise and participate in a variety of outdoor activities.”

As a reminder, the largest public park in Abu Dhabi, the 20-hectare Masdar City eco-city, opened in February 2024. It has courts for volleyball, badminton, padel tennis and basketball, as well as a pamp track and a 5 kilometre running and cycling track.
