UAE landmarks to become holograms

Dr Ajith Kumar, an expert in holography, hopes to immortalise the landmarks of the United Arab Emirates in the form of holograms. This project will not only share Islamic culture with the world, but will also allow anyone to enjoy historical and entertainment attractions wherever they are.

“I am passionate about cultural archiving and I believe there is a huge opportunity for this in the UAE,” he said, “The country’s museums and cultural sites have a wonderful collection of Islamic history. They can and should be turned into holograms and immortalised so that anyone from anywhere in the world can look at them.”

The laser holography scientist travelled to the country for the Photonics Middle East conference, which attracts scientists and researchers from around the world. “The UAE is in the fairway of innovation in all fields and now is the time for the country to ride the wave of photonics,” he said, “With its futuristic prospects, I think the government can use science to its advantage and perhaps even become the global epicentre of innovation in this field.

According to Dr Ajith, he has a very ambitious vision for holograms in Dubai. “With many celebrities visiting the country on a daily basis, I hope to open a holography studio in the emirate,” he said, “Every time someone visits here, we can turn their photo into a hologram that will remain as a memento. This studio can become a centre for global tourism, with holograms of all the world leaders and celebrities who have visited Dubai.”

He also hopes to create a photonics park in the UAE. “This could change the future of this country,” he said, “It will make it possible to manufacture photonic chips in the UAE, and will move the country forward significantly in the field of innovation.

The project can also inspire the younger generation, he said. “School children can visit the park and understand how the latest technology works,” he said, “This will inspire young people to work in the industry and create a long-term impact.
