The astronomical community in the United Arab Emirates had earlier predicted the date of the next major religious holiday Eid Al Adha. According to astronomers, Arafat Day in 2024 will fall on Sunday, 16 June, and the public holiday, also known as the Feast of Sacrifice, will begin as early as Monday.

Ibrahim Al Jarwan, chairman of the UAE Astronomical Society, noted that 20 June is likely to be the end of the Hajj season. Thus, working UAE residents will get five consecutive days off (including Saturday and Sunday).

Eid al Adha is one of the two major Muslim holidays. It is also known as the festival of the completion of the Hajj. Muslims on this day remember the sacrifice of Prophet Ibrahim, go to mosques and give alms to the poor and hungry.

It is one of the major religious celebrations, reminding Muslims of man’s devotion to God and the mercy of the Almighty. Eid al Adha begins to be celebrated 70 days after Eid al Fitr, on the tenth day of the Muslim month of Zul Hijjah. Unlike many other dates, Eid al-Adha is celebrated for several consecutive days.

The traditions of the holiday are inextricably linked to the basic rules of Islam. Its key part is sacrifice. After the festive prayer, believers slaughter a ram (or a camel, cow, buffalo or goat). When slaughtering an animal, one must not show aggression.

One third of the sacrificial animals should be given to the poor or orphanages, one third should be given to guests and relatives, and one third should be left to the family. On this day it is customary to visit loved ones and pray for the dead. Believers should also give alms.
