Drinking water

Drinking water extracted from air in Dubai

The Dubai Roads and Transport Authority has installed three new drinking water dispensers in different areas of the emirate. The innovative units are capable of converting humid urban air into drinking water, cleansing it of toxic substances.

The new dispensers have become a real lifesaver for courier workers who have to deliver online orders under the scorching sun in 50-degree heat, as the units have been installed at their resting places.

Thus, the invention will save couriers on motorbikes from thirst and contribute to environmental protection. It is worth noting that the dispensers produce 100 litres of water daily. The department is in the process of setting up 40 rest areas for the couriers where they can take a break from the heat in a cool room.

Earlier, online order delivery service Deliveroo ordered a hydration bus for couriers to help them protect themselves from the summer heat and dehydration. The bus will stop at areas such as Hessa Street, Mirdif City Centre, Al Sufouh and City Walk.

Meanwhile, Dubai earlier launched a new Freej Fridge initiative, which will provide more than one million road, construction and delivery workers with free water, juices and ice cream to help them refresh during the summer heat.

Trucks carrying the refreshments and treats are travelling across the city to help workers protect themselves from dehydration and heat exhaustion. The initiative is in collaboration with the UAE Food Bank and the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives (MBRGI) Foundation.

The project will run until 23 August and everyone can register and participate as a volunteer on the Ferjan Dubai website.
