Dubai reveals unusual facts about the Gold Souk Market
In the midst of the summer shopping festival, Dubai’s Department of Economy and Tourism has shared some unusual facts about the Gold Souk, where you can go for authentic shopping or just stroll around in the atmosphere of the Old City.
The market area has been expanded and now there are several cute cafes in addition to the new shops. In addition to gold, Gold Souk sells pearls, silver, platinum and diamond jewellery.
Also at the market you can see the world’s largest gold ring, which is listed in the Guinness Book of World Records. In addition to this record-breaker, there are other unusual items on display. For example, waistcoats woven from gold thread and encrusted with precious stones.
All jewellery, precious metals and stones are strictly checked for authenticity. Shopkeepers welcome customers as guests and often serve traditional drinks such as Arabic coffee and karak tea.
Many local craftsmen have been in the jewellery business for several decades, continuing the family business. The traditional Arabian market is located next to Dubai Creek Bay in the Deira neighbourhood. The nearest metro station is Al Ras.
