UAE public schools open applications for expat children
Non-Emirati students can now apply for admission to UAE public schools for the upcoming academic year. The Emirates School Education Foundation announced that Gulf nationals, children of diplomats, UAE passport holders and Comoros passport holders are eligible.
Students in grades 2 to 12 who are not nationals of one of the listed countries can start studying in a UAE public school, provided certain conditions are met. At least one of the student’s parents must work in a government, semi-government or local institution, and the student must have a minimum score of 85% in Arabic, English and maths.
In addition, both the student and his/her parents must have a valid UAE residency visa. The number of expat children admitted will not exceed 20% of the total number of students in each class.
If the above conditions are met, foreign students are allowed to attend government schools for AED 6,000 as tuition fees.
The language of instruction in UAE public schools in all subjects is Arabic. Schools follow the Emirates national curriculum, approved and fully supervised by the Ministry of Education. English is taught as a second language for at a basic grammar and comprehension level.
You can apply for admission to a government school by filling out a form and attaching the required documents on the Emirates Schools Establishment website. The school will check the request and either accept or reject it through the system.
