Bright landmark welcomes visitors to Dubai
A huge ‘Welcome to Dubai’ sign now greets residents and visitors to the emirate arriving via Dubai International Airport (DXB). The welcome sign will be one of the first sights Dubai visitors will see when they land at the airport.
Photos released by the municipality on Sunday show the message in Arabic and English located at the centre of a large-scale landscaping pattern. The green space is one of the largest beautification projects in the emirate.
The design features decorative elements such as coloured gravel that is visible during the day and innovative lighting that makes the welcome sign glow at night.
The project is based on modern ecological design: 50,000 plants and shrubs were planted as part of the artistic design. They were carefully selected to give the landscape an aesthetic appeal.
Innovative plant fencing was developed to add vibrancy and beauty to the design. A state-of-the-art irrigation system maintains the green spaces, optimising water efficiency to balance urban and sustainable development.
Dawood Al Hajri, Director General of Dubai Municipality (DM), said the project was developed in line with the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to make the emirate the world’s best city to live in.
‘This is one of many projects being implemented by DM to enhance the city’s attractiveness through landscaping that successfully combines urban development and environmental sustainability,’ said Mr Al Hajri, ’We will continue to develop similar spaces across the emirate to increase green space and create aesthetic features that contribute to Dubai’s unique appeal as a global tourist destination.
