Indian diaspora in UAE reaches 4 million people
The Indian diaspora in the United Arab Emirates has reached nearly 4 million people, Satish Kumar Sivan, Consul General of India in Dubai and the Northern Emirates, said.
The diplomat said the UAE, and Dubai in particular, is fast becoming a global financial centre due to the contribution of people of Indian origin. Since 2012, the community has almost doubled in size from 2.2 million to 3.9 million as India-UAE relations continue to strengthen.
It is noted that the Indian diaspora is the largest in the UAE and is an active contributor to the UAE’s economy. This includes expats from India investing in healthcare, property, retail and other sectors.
The community’s numbers recovered quickly after the pandemic, with many professionals and wealthy individuals moving to the UAE in search of more favourable conditions and job opportunities.
The Consul General praised the UAE leadership for allowing Indians to practise their religion without any restrictions.
