New image of Dubai sent from the ISS
The Dubai Media Office has published a stunning image of Dubai at night, taken from the International Space Station. Among the bright lights of the big city you can see the outlines of The Palm Jumeirah and The World Islands, the port of Jebel Ali, as well as densely populated residential areas of the emirate, such as Jumeirah Village Circle.
This image, taken at an altitude of 400 kilometres, demonstrates Dubai’s ambition and its phenomenally rapid growth and development. The year 2025 is planned to be a watershed in the development of the United Arab Emirates’ space sector. The country’s authorities intend to achieve new successes and strengthen its position on the global stage, the Mohammed bin Rashid Space Centre (MBRSC) said.
In 2025, the UAE will expand its participation in the NASA Gateway project, which involves the construction of the Emirates Airlock module for the lunar orbital station, designed to facilitate the movement of crew and cargo to and from it. The UAE is also known to be planning to send its own astronaut to the moon.
MBRSC engineers are also busy developing the new Rashid 2 lunar rover. As is known, the first lunar rover crashed while landing on the surface of the moon. The UAE Space Agency is also overseeing the preparation of a mission to the main belt: in 2028, the MBR Explorer spacecraft will travel to seven asteroids and attempt to land on the last one. Along the way, it will also fly past Venus and possibly take images of that planet.
