Erth Dubai: A New Project to Document Dubai’s Cultural Legacy

Dubai has unveiled a new project, Erth Dubai, aimed at documenting the emirate’s rich history and cultural heritage. The initiative was announced by His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister, and UAE Minister of Defence. The program seeks to collect and catalogue life experiences that reflect the city’s evolution and the stories of its residents across generations.

Sheikh Hamdan highlighted that Dubai’s transformation into a modern metropolis is rooted in the visionary legacy of its leaders, whose efforts laid the foundation for the city’s progress. He stressed that Erth Dubai will play a vital role in preserving the collective memory of Dubai’s development, fostering a deeper understanding of its history and heritage.

The Crown Prince emphasized that the initiative will safeguard cultural heritage, ensuring it continues to inspire future generations while reinforcing the emirate’s national identity. He described Dubai’s history as a narrative of ambition, resilience, and unity—a legacy initiated by ancestors and carried forward by the current generation.

Sheikh Hamdan urged all segments of society, including students, families, business leaders, and government officials, to actively participate in the project. Erth Dubai will feature an interactive platform where residents can share their personal stories, contributing to a living archive of the city’s heritage.

The initiative will roll out in phases through 2025, beginning with the collection of community submissions. These contributions will later be reviewed by a panel of experts in history, sociology, and culture. Students from public schools and Dubai government employees will also be involved in the process.

Erth Dubai is part of a broader effort by Sheikh Hamdan to showcase Dubai’s remarkable journey. It follows the recent launch of the Dubai National Archives project, which aims to preserve key historical records and artifacts that highlight the emirate’s heritage.

This initiative underscores Dubai’s commitment to honoring its past while inspiring future generations to continue building on its legacy of innovation and unity.
