UAE Completes Preparation of Satellite for Upcoming Space Mission

His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister, and Minister of Defense of the UAE, has announced the completion of the new Etihad-SAT space project. The launch of the advanced satellite, equipped with a Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) system, is scheduled for March 2025.

Developed through a strategic collaboration between the Mohammed bin Rashid Space Centre (MBRSC) and South Korea’s Satrec Initiative, Etihad-SAT marks a significant leap forward in the UAE’s space capabilities. This project underscores the nation’s commitment to advancing its presence in the global space industry.

Sheikh Hamdan emphasized, “Our ambitions in the space sector know no bounds. We are confident in the abilities of our youth to strengthen the UAE’s global leadership in space exploration and to help create a bright future for humanity, built on knowledge and innovation.”

The Etihad-SAT satellite is equipped with state-of-the-art Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) technology, enabling it to capture high-quality images of the Earth’s surface under any weather conditions, including cloud cover and rain. This capability will make it an invaluable tool for environmental monitoring, natural resource management, and supporting the agricultural sector.

The successful completion of this project highlights the UAE’s growing expertise in space technology and its dedication to contributing to global scientific advancements.
