Dubai Police Revives Annual Ramadan Games
Dubai Police has relaunched its popular “Ramadan Games” initiative, offering residents a chance to win prizes totaling over 800,000 AED (approximately $218,000) while promoting sports and wellness during the holy month. The event, running until March 22, will primarily take place after sunset to accommodate fasting participants, with activities hosted across multiple venues in the emirate.
The initiative, organized by Dubai Police, aims to encourage a culture of physical activity and holistic health during Ramadan. “The Ramadan Games are designed to inspire residents to embrace healthy lifestyles while strengthening community bonds,” the law enforcement agency stated. Open to Dubai residents, police staff, veterans, cadets from the Dubai Police Academy, their families, and individuals with special needs, the event emphasizes inclusivity and unity.
Participants can compete in 23 disciplines, ranging from traditional Emirati games to modern sports, including:
- Mountain biking
- Football, cricket, and beach volleyball
- Taekwondo, karate, jiu-jitsu, and archery
- Chess, snooker, and air rifle shooting
- A 5km run, 100m sprint, and obstacle course races
- Swimming, rowing machine challenges, and artistic gymnastics
Cycling events will be held uniquely before sunset, while all other competitions are scheduled after Iftar—the evening meal marking the end of daily fasting. Venues include the Dubai Police Officers Club, Dubai Police Academy, Deira Palm, Umm Al Daman, Al Ruwayyah training base, and Nad Al Sheba Police Station, ensuring accessibility for communities across the emirate.
By integrating activities like traditional UAE games and adaptive sports, the initiative highlights Dubai’s commitment to cultural preservation and accessibility. The inclusion of people with disabilities underscores the event’s alignment with Ramadan’s core values of compassion and community.
Dubai Police’s revival of the Ramadan Games not only fosters friendly competition but also reinforces the importance of health, unity, and charitable spirit during the holy month. As residents gear up for the contests, the games stand as a testament to Dubai’s dedication to nurturing well-being and social cohesion through sport.
